About

Our Service to the Community

The Madison Metropolitan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, was chartered in 1985.  Since its inception, the Madison Chapter has committed its membership and resources to educational, civic, and intercultural programs and projects designed to enhance the academic achievement of K-12 students of African descent in the Greater Madison and Beloit Metropolitan areas. Our many endeavors include the support of academic achievement through conferences for high school and middle school girls, support of the Allied Drive Learning Center, support of the Madison Public Library through selected book acquisitions, support of families in poverty by providing food baskets, support of the arts as they enrich the lives of young people, and the contribution of many volunteer hours in various learning centers.

The Madison Chapter has also engaged in a variety of health-related activities such as health walks, health fairs and forums, distribution of materials related to diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease as well as screenings for hypertension and diabetes. A cookbook was published that emphasizes healthy recipes. Free copies of this cookbook have been distributed to low-income persons in the community, and the sales have been utilized to advance many community enterprises.

Fueled by the organization’s Services to Youth Facet Committee, the Madison Chapter is best known for its annual African American Student Recognition Program. Over $185,000 has been awarded in scholarships to deserving students in the greater Madison and Beloit communities. In addition, the annual “Yes, I Can! Yes, I Will!” Middle School Girls Conference, is a day of full engagement, learning and networking for middle school girls in the Madison Metropolitan School District attendance area. The topics covered at the conference range from STEM, wellness and body image, mental health, anti-bullying to academic excellence.
